They were rewarded for their outstanding problem-solving skills and deep understanding of Hong Kong’s culture and history.

The BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Award 2022 was established in 2022 with support from Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited to encourage scientific researchers and innovative enterprises in Hong Kong to continue exploring innovations, and transforming their discoveries into real-life applications for the benefit of society. It is open to teams and individual scientific researchers in fields such as artificial intelligence and robotics, life sciences research, new materials energy production, and FinTech.

In addition to recognizing the pioneering efforts and transformation of scientific research, the award aims to promote a scientific and technological spirit, and encourage scientific researchers in Hong Kong to continue to innovate, establish themselves, serve the community, and contribute to the world. It is the first of its kind in Asia.

This year, the jury selected Zhang Tianyuan as the first runner-up for Business News Reporting with her two pieces titled Agents of Change and Boosting HK Tourism. She said that the prize was a strong encouragement for her to continue her work, as it reminds her that her efforts can make a difference. Xi Tianqi, a reporter with a short 1 1/2-year tenure at China Daily, earned second runner-up for her series of reports on the issue of cross-border organ transplantation and fertility perseverance for cancer patients.
